The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (TEEMA) are proudly presenting TAITRONICS 2017 from Oct. 11 to Oct. 14 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1. Now in its 43rd edition, this year’s expo features around 400 exhibitors operating over 800 booths. In addition to heavyweight Taiwanese companies, exhibitors from India, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and China — including 14 innovative local and international startups — are on hand to infuse their creativity into the show. Such attendees demonstrate not only how the TAITRONICS platform has integrated the electronics industry chain but also how it has become the optimal platform for building diverse, vertically integrated applications and tech solutions.
‘New Tech’ is the New Black
“New Technology, New Applications,” is the main theme for this year’s event, which comprises 10 show areas with focuses such as Energy-Efficiency Solutions, Smart Manufacturing and Smart Living & Consumer Electronics. There are also six pavilions, including the AIoT Pavilion and the Startup Pavilion.
Trends in AIoT (artificial intelligence/the internet of things) are gradually yielding developments applicable in many fields, for example, agriculture, retail, education, health care, transportation, household care and even manufacturing, according to TAITRA Exhibition Department Director Huang Han-tang. With this in mind, TAITRONICS’ theme this year is designed to push the show to become not only an indispensable platform for showcasing industries, both upstream to downstream, but also for solutions for innovative, smart-tech applications.
With Big Data, IoT and AI all continuing to trend worldwide, TEEMA committee head Engel Wu said he anticipated industry transformations on the horizon, specifically when hardware manufacturers moved to develop software.
TEEMA has invited the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and the Asia Pacific Industrial Analysis Association (APIAA), aiming to combine the former’s knowhow of industry trends and forward-looking technology with the latter’s expertise in innovative product transformation and smart applications. The group has also invited local and international corporations and medical teams to form national teams and show their at the AIoT Pavilion to invoke innovative energy.
Furthermore, in a bid to combine Taiwan’s hardware and software to facilitate cross-industry innovation in AI and IoT, the first Smart Innovation Application Award contest — hosted by TEEMA, APIAA, ITRI and TAITRA — has been organized. Winners will have their products showcased during TAITRONICS.
Global Participation
Another notable highlight of this year’s TAITRONICS is the participation of attendees from India, Japan and South Korea. For the second consecutive year, Japan’s Akita Prefecture has arranged for local businesses to attend the show as part of the Japan Pavilion. They are introducing high-tech innovations such as green energy panels, low-energy Bluetooth modules, LEDs and detectors. Meanwhile, with its “Make in India” program’s view of TAITRONICS as a critical promotional opportunity, India is also hosting a national pavilion.
A series of seminars are also being held, with in-depth discussion on system integration, international smart cities, cross-strait smart cities and applications for smart living IoT as well as handheld smart IoT services. It’s hoped the forward-looking insight being dished out will help ignite a new generation of innovations.
As of Oct. 2, the number of international buyers registered to attend TAITRONICS had already exceeded four digits, with them coming from around 45 countries. Organizers expect approximately 1,500 international buyers will ultimately visit the show throughout its four-day duration. One-on-one procurement meetings are being held to help match buyers with prospective business partners and products; TAITRA has arranged for enterprises from 20 countries, including Russia, the U.S., Brazil, India and Germany, to attend the procurement meetings.
Welcoming Innovators
The pre-show press conference featuring TAITRONICS exhibitors captured the essence of the wide-reaching IoT-related tech on display at this year’s show.
