Intelligent greenhouse
- Assisting Bali in establishing smart greenhouses to solve a shortage of fresh produce
- Developing a plot of land on Politeknik Internasional Bali’s campus to construct a greenhouse
Are you familiar with spending a great deal of money to build a greenhouse, yet can’t produce high-quality crops? The wrong greenhouse design will lead to high temperatures and humidity. The heat causes poor nutrient absorption and increases the risk of diseases, pests and other problems.
Tama Shokunin has developed an intelligent greenhouse system that solves this problem, easing the burdens on farmers while increasing cultivation efficiency — high-quality products sell at better prices. Tama Shokunin is a smart agricultural integration company specializing in providing next-generation agricultural solutions, assisting farmers with the transition to quality agriculture and creating value for the sector.
Taiwan has used agriculture as a main production force, but now faces the problem of severely low food self-sufficiency. Solving this problem has fallen on the shoulders of the young generation, along with industrial changes and climate change. A lack of agricultural resources, in addition to other factors such as shortcomings in distribution, have only added to the problem
Tama Shokunin has integrated sophisticated technology into its agricultural solutions. Its self-developed modular intelligent environmental control system tackles Taiwanese agriculture’s largest issue: strong winds. In addition, it can also control the temperature, exposure to sunlight, and soil moisture and nutrients for crops.
By taking into consideration the needs of crops, a professional cultivation team can be established through institutionalized management and training, helping young farming teams in rural areas receive in-depth counseling and assistance. The entire process uses organic farming methods combined with digital management to prevent crop pests and diseases, establishing a happy and comfortable growth environment that also provides all the necessary nutrients for plants. This supplies consumers with healthy and safe produce.
Assisting Bali’s agricultural agency establish intelligent greenhouses to solve a shortage of fresh produce
Bali, one of the world’s top tourism destinations, has seen explosive growth in tourist arrivals — mostly from Australia, Britain, Europe and the US — which are expected to surpass 17 million annually in a few years.
However, this increase in tourists has caused a major strain on the daily supply of fresh fruits and vegetables: most agricultural products are transported from Surabaya to Bali. This long journey lacks proper refrigeration, severely limiting the supply and quality of produce. Bali’s agricultural agency has contracted Tama Shokunin to provide professional consulting services and assist in establishing intelligent greenhouses to help resolve the issue of produce shortages.
Tama Shokunin manager Benson Wu said that the company is assisting the agricultural agency with development of intelligent greenhouses for corn, tomatoes, gherkins, cantaloupe and other produce.
The development is primarily focused on seedlings, which are then transplanted to screenhouses for cultivation, he said.
Tama Shokunin plans to explore other opportunities, including providing agricultural products to hoteliers, he added.
In addition to building greenhouses, local staff would also be trained on building greenhouse irrigation systems and planting methods, Wu said, adding that the training in Bali would be identical to that provided in Taiwan.
Tama Shokunin is also collaborating with Politeknik Internasional Bali to develop and build a plot of land on the university’s campus into a greenhouse, Wu said.
Taking Taiwan’s agricultural expertise to the Middle East and Southeast Asia
Tama Shokunin’s smart agriculture integrated solutions have been successfully adopted by several Taiwanese enterprises. The company has also been involved in several industry-academia collaborations with high schools and National Taitung University, as well as National Pingtung University of Science and Technology’s “Smart Farm 4.0” program, among others.
The company has also been promoting Taiwan’s agricultural technology abroad. It has negotiated with stakeholders about technical assistance on aquaponics in the Middle East, as well as greenhouse and animal husbandry equipment management in Cambodia. Its efforts have made it an agricultural pioneer in Asia and helped Taiwan’s agricultural technology become famous the world over.
