The A-MTK company, founded in 2006, is a manufacturer and provider for surveillance cameras, encompassing a wide range of functions. Its policy to base manufacturing, as well as research and development, of its products in Taiwan, resulted in the company retaining a robust and experienced crew of engineers. This has directly contributed to the company’s capability, both it is early years when working with original equipment manufacturing (OEM) and original design manufacturing (ODM) orders, and when managing tender requests over the last three years, to provide customizability of hardware, software and machine composition on demand.
A-MTK has also kept up with technological trends. Answering the development of the IoT concept, greater demand for peer-to-peer (P2P) “Smart Home” platforms in 2016, A-MTK designed and produced its own P2P IP camera products, compatible with the platform-as-a-service (PAAS) and systems-as-a-service (SAAS) models for cloud services. In 2017, the company incorporated the Artificial Intelligence (AI) concept and developed its own Edge AI IP cameras. The company’s IP cameras have also recently been certified that it supports the G, Q, S, and T ONVIF profiles.
Applied Use of IP Cameras in Taiwan
In a case that wrapped up just this year, A-MTK collaborated with the Coast Guard Administration (CGA) to install 250 surveillance cameras along Yilan County roads to identify license plates of vehicles passing through the region.
The main purpose of this project is to help the CGA identify and apprehend vehicle smugglers. The system contributes towards this goal by allowing the CGA to keep track of smuggling ring drivers. And flag them as suspicious individuals.
The cameras, often installed on sections of road with poor lighting as these are the areas that smugglers tend to frequent, compensates for the low-light environment by utilizing Sony’s IMX-462 sensors and A-MTK’s self-researched auto-focus system – the processes of which is facilitated by A-MTK’s strong background in systems research and design – providing crisp, clear image surveillance and capture under a low-light environment.
The system was later expanded to include the National Police Agency, whose archives of smuggled car records, as well as an expanded range of potential list of suspects, greatly improved the program’s efficiency to locate, track, and apprehend smuggled cars.
The Ankara Project
The company had learned of a project in Turkey when attending the International Security Systems, Services, Equipment, and RFID Exhibition which called for downsizing the total number of surveillance cameras installed in local and intercity buses going to and from Ankara, Turkey.
Reaching up to 20m in length and with six doors, buses on the intercity routes would, conventionally, have been outfitted with six IP dome cameras for comprehensive surveillance coverage. This, however, presented significant problems, as the vehicle will have to undergo significant rewiring to provide sufficient power to operate the system.
In 2015, A-MTK provided the software company, which managed the cloud service for the monitoring of intercity and local buses, a systems-integration solution to reduce the total number of surveillance cameras needed to monitor entire buses on intercity routes.
A-MTK’s integrated circuit fish-eye IP camera capable of conducting 360° surveillance – the results of which must first be de-warped – would then offer a wider angle of view. The cameras meet the standards of the ONVIF E certificate and are capable of providing independent streaming of the region of interest (ROI). The cameras’ independent connections to different network video recorder (NVR) channels make it possible to record multiple images on one recorder, facilitating image processing.
Alongside the decrease in power requirement, A-MTK’s solution made it possible to keep and process all image data on one computer powered by an Intel i5 processor, further slashing hardware expenditure costs.
This allowed the city and intercity buses to install only two cameras instead of six, thereby reducing total power consumption and removing the need for extensive renovation for bus power lines.
In addition, with the decreased number of cameras linked to the NVR mainframe on the bus – which is outfitted with two 4G SIM cards on a monthly plan – the data required to just stream two separate sources have decreased, slashing monthly expenditure significantly.
