The Eye on Taiwan news staff
Regent Taipei, one of Taiwan’s leading hotels, has invited the renowned Japanese Kakiyasu Group for a guest chef event from Feb 9-Feb 11 at the Mihan Honke restaurant to present customers with a more unique experience of Wagyu, a Japanese delicacy which entered the Taiwan market last October.
Led by Kakiyasu’s executive chef Muraishi-san, the Kakiyasu Beef-Ultimate Luxury Wagyu Feast will transport the entire Japanese Kakiyasu century-old traditions in its entirety to Taiwan, the hotel said in a press release.
The experience, priced at NT$15,800, will include a total of nine courses from appetizer, nigiri, sashimi, roasted items, sukiyaki, to kamameshi, and includes wine pairing selections, Regent Taipei said.
A Kakiyasu certificate, which certifies the beef’s ancestry and bloodlines, will be presented to guests at the end of the experience. Each meal is limited to 20 seats and reservations are available starting today, Regent Taipei said.
From Feb 9-28, azie restaurant on the first floor will offer Kakiyasu Wagyu Donburi, Kakiyasu Wagyu Hamburger Beef Donburi and Roast Kakiyasu Wagyu Donburi, ranging from NT$480 to NT$880, it said.
Kakiyasu is one of Japan’s oldest and most renowned groups with more than 150 years of history and expertise, owning and operating shabu shabu, sukiyaki, buffet and Wagashi dessert restaurants.
Despite the group’s reach, its signature product is its certified A5 Wagyu Kakiyasu Beef, originating from Japan’s Mie Prefecture, an area between Osaka and Nagoya, surrounded by untainted and unpolluted mountains, the hotel said.
Only 50 Kakiyasu cows pass the incredibly strict certification process per year to become A5 Wagyu Kakiyasu Beef certified. Additionally, this guest chef event will present the most prized cut of the A5 Wagyu Kakiyasu Beef, which is a beautifully marbled filet with a so-tender-it-can-be-broken-by-chopsticks texture.
This prized cut is a mere 0.1% of the entire Kakiyasu certified cattle and thus sometimes referred to as a “miracle” cut, according to Regent Taipei.
Kakiyasu Beef- Ultimate Luxury Wagyu Feast is presented at Mihan Honke; among the nine courses in the experience, Roast Kakiyasu Beef Filet is an especially noteworthy dish; the 0.1% prized miracle cut is cooked on a charcoal grill with no additional seasoning, allowing it to showcase its naturally luxurious flavor, the hotel said.
Another highlight is the Kakiyasu Beef Sukiyaki which is created with Kakiyasu’s 150+ years old sukiyaki sauce recipe, giving guests a glimpse and taste into the Japanese culinary history, it said, adding set menus start at NT$15,800 and reservation is needed.
