Hsinchu County sees the highest growth in domestic travel interest
Taipei, TAIWAN, October 24, 2017 – TripAdvisor®, the travel site that helps you find the latest reviews and best prices, today revealed that more Taiwan travelers are making a beeline for destinations in Vietnam and Indonesia.
Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi were the top two destinations with the highest year-on-year percentage increases in search traffic[1] at 50% and 43% respectively, with Bali coming in at number three (41%). Within North Asia, Okinawa, Hokkaido and Fujikawaguchiko-machi emerged as the Japanese spots that are catching the eye of Taiwan travelers along with the Chinese destination of Hangzhou. Further afield, the heritage-rich European destinations of Amsterdam (34%) and London (24%) are becoming long-haul favourites.
Official figures from the Tourism Bureau, M.O.T.C Republic of China (Taiwan) also show a 21% and 9% increase in outbound travel by Taiwan travelers to Vietnam and Indonesia respectively comparing the first eight months of 2017 with the same period the year before. Taiwan travelers to the Netherlands increased by 130% while the United Kingdom saw a staggering four-fold increase over the same period.

As Taiwan travelers turn to TripAdvisor for travel advice, they are also contributing more reviews on TripAdvisor, with an overall 23% year-on-year increase in reviews across the airline, accommodation, attraction, and eatery categories[2].
When examining the top outbound destinations by search traffic, Osaka was the most searched-for destination, followed by Hong Kong and Kyoto. With their close proximity to Taiwan, these destinations are perennial favourites for weekend getaways. Taiwan travelers spent an average of two nights in Hong Kong and three nights for both Osaka and Kyoto while the average number of days taken to plan a trip to these three cities were 46, 82, and 86 respectively.

Hsinchu County a growing destination for domestic travel
When looking at domestic searches, Taipei[4] continued to be the most popular destination amongst domestic travelers, with Taichung and Kaohsiung in second and third place. In particular, more Taiwan travelers were flocking to Hsinchu County, which saw a 105% surge in search interest, the highest year-on-year increase. Both Hsinchu County and Miaoli County were recently earmarked as key destinations in a local campaign to promote Hakka culture.
