The Eye on Taiwan news staff
Representatives of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Kaohsiung Branch Office will visit Taitung City on Monday, January 22 to provide those consular services and answer questions as part of the services for American citizens, the AIT said in a statement.
US citizens who needs to renew their U.S. passports, obtain Consular Report of Birth Abroad for any newborns, or have documents notarized can make use of the opportunity to obtain the convenient services.
Services will be offered from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the first-floor of National Immigration Agency Taitung Service Station, located at 95 Chang-Sha Street, Taitung City, AIT said.
Those who need the services are advised to first visit the AIT website at https://www.ait.org.tw/u-s-citizen-services/passports/ for more information on required application forms, the specific U.S. passport photo 2″ x 2″ square size requirement, and current fees, AIT noted.
According to AIT, since November 1, 2016, eyeglasses or cosmetic contact lenses that make the iris appear larger or smaller are not acceptable in passport photos. It asked applicants to bring both the original and a clear photocopy of their U.S. passports or other photo IDs.
It also noted that passport applications for minor children under the age of 16 require signatures and a personal appearance by both parents and the child. Visit the website at https://www.ait.org.tw/u-s-citizen-services/passports/minor-passports-5-year-passport/.
For applicants who want their passports and other documents to be mailed back to them by the AIT, they must prepare a self-addressed envelope with NT$50 in postage. The AIT also accepts payment in US dollars, but applicants need to bring exact change for the requested services.
For further information, contact AIT Kaohsiung at (07) 335-5006 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., or e-mail us at WardenKAO@state.gov.
