Lextar Electronics, the vertically integrated LED company is to launch the VCSEL products for 3D depth-sensing during the opening of the biannual Electronica 2018 in Munich on Tuesday.
It will also announce its I-Mini Square module, the newest mini-LED technology, for automotive tail lamps which can display dynamic image smoothly during the four-day event to end on Friday, the company said in a press statement.
I-Mini Square is yet another Lextar’s innovative breakthrough after the company announced its Mini LED display technology in August. This concept application will make its debut at Electronica 2018, the company said.
The VSCEL product portfolio can be used for 3D depth-sensing applications including gesture recognition, people detection, facial recognition, and driver fatigue detection, it said, adding this is Lextar’s first official launch of a product portfolio for 3D sensing package and application.
Lextar’s VCSEL PV88M component series is mainly applied to the light source emission of the 3D depth-sensing module, providing products with various wavelengths, brightnesses, and package sizes, and beam angle selection from 45 to 100 degrees. This series can be applied to many kinds of sensing systems based on customer demand. the company said.
In Electronica 2018, Lextar will present VCSEL products integrating camera modules and software to provide interactive experiences for visitors.
As for gesture recognition, users can gesture to control the vehicle control system, such as adjusting audio volume, selection from the menu, and answering/hanging up phone calls, Lextar said.
In terms of facial recognition, this series, capable of reading faces and telling humans from photos, is usually applied to security systems.
For human detection applications, it can recognize humans and detect human height and is perfect for senior/children monitoring, senior fall detection, or people counting in the mall, it said.
In addition, in driver fatigue detection applications, products can detect reactions of fatigue, including closed eyes and nodding, to enhance driving safety, it noted.
According to Lextar Electronics, the current mainstream of 3D sensing covers stereo vision, structured light, and ToF (Time of Flight). By adopting ToF measurement, Lextar’s VCSEL components, with advantages like fast scanning, long distance, high efficiency, and great resistance to ambient light, have gradually become the major trend of the 3D sensing market.
Through the deep cultivation of VCSEL, Lextar has become the supply chain of global top mobile phone manufacturers, and already begun to deliver products; this shows the significant meaning of its entering the 3D sensing market, Lextar said.
On the I-Mini Square module, Lextar said it is able to display RGB full-color screens and is equipped with high brightness, thin design, high contrast, high resolution, and long lifetime.
When it is applied on automotive tail lamps, it can perfectly deduce driving, stop, indicators, and reversing lights; in addition, the thinned module can increase the design space and flexibility of the tail lamp significantly, it said.
The smooth dynamic screen performance can realize customization and personalize your own tail lamp, or display warning screens, achieving the function of message communication.
Moreover, compared to OLED display that is currently applied on automotive lamps, I-Mini Square has even higher reliability because it leaves no image sticking and has better environmental tolerance, Lextar said.
Applying the I-Mini Square module from Lextar Electronics on automotive lamps subverts people’s imagination of traditional automotive lamps; it can achieve personalization and increase the sense of design as well as driving safety, according to the company.
Lextar’s I-Mini display technology has unlimited applications in the future; with the trend of IoT and smart device, the display will be vastly used for communicating digital content. I-Mini not only is the first to step into vehicle applications, but it is also expected to have great development spaces in fields such as commercial, entertainment, education, medical, retail industries…etc. in the future, it said.
