The Kaohsiung International Food Show, the Kaohsiung International Hotel, Restaurant, Baking and Catering Show (Kaohsiung HORECA) and the Kaohsiung International Halal Expo (Kaohsiung HALAL) open today at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center and are to run until Oct. 27. The three expos will feature 392 exhibitors using 756 booths, with the Kaohsiung Food Show reaching its biggest-ever scale. Countries including Japan, South Korea, the United States, Thailand, Belgium, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Vietnam and China will be represented as local delicacies and international cuisine converge in Kaohsiung for the shows, which are expected to attract tens of thousands of domestic and overseas buyers and visitors.
As the Kaohsiung International Food Show is focusing on delicious agricultural and fisheries products, the Agriculture Bureau and Marine Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government and the Taiwan Frozen Seafood Industries Association, are leading a strong lineup of exhibitors that will showcase southern Taiwan’s freshest local delicacies. An-Shin Food Service Co. is making its debut at the show and aims to develop the southern Taiwan market. The Taiwan Vegetarian Association, which is also making its maiden appearance, is bringing together several makers of high-quality vegetarian products, such as vegetarian hamburgers.
Leading domestic food suppliers including Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corp., Wei-I Foodstuff Co. and Haw-Di-I Foods Co., maker of Bullhead brand shacha sauce, are to showcase their delicious goods. Meanwhile, firms such as DKSH Taiwan, Sun Mate Machinery Co. and Asia Great Land Inc. will display their high-quality food preparation equipment and tableware.
In recognition of the potential of the global halal market, this year’s exhibition will help 28 manufacturers having halal certification expand their sales. In the future, they will continue to help promote halal business opportunities in Taiwan and create a halal-friendly environment.
In addition to heavyweight domestic firms, international exhibitors will be a highlight of the exhibition. Italian olive growers consortium Italia Olivicola has come a long way to introduce premium-quality European olive oil to southern Taiwan. Japan’s Fish-Eating Culture Leading Project Association of Himi City is to showcase specialty processed yellowtail products, such as Smoked Buri Ham and Himi Buri Jerky, which are excellent pairings for alcohol. Coffee, chocolate and hot sauce from countries including Honduras, Nicaragua and Guatemala will be on display at the Latin America Pavilion. Mead from Wyoming, classic Belgian beers and German wines will also be on show — domestic importers and distributors are welcome to look for new flavors.
During the exhibition, there will also be a variety of live events. The “Celebrity Cooking Show” will invite state banquet executive chefs to provide live demonstrations and share their cooking secrets. The “Yummy Product Show” provides a platform for exhibitors to present their brand and products. The “Kaohsiung Agricultural Products Carnival” will provide the audience with time-limited specials on food. Purchases at the show will also yield entries for prize drawings, with the grand prize consisting of an economy-class, round-trip ticket to anywhere in Asia with China Airlines or EVA Air. The plethora of events will serve up countless delicacies and surprises, ensuring that everyone leaves satisfied.
In the morning of the first day, only professional trade representatives will be allowed to enter the exhibitions; entry for the general public will be available from 1pm. One ticket provides access to all three exhibitions. The organizers have arranged for free shuttle buses between the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center and the Kaohsiung MRT’s Sanduo Shopping District Station.
