Taiwan 5G OptoComm SIG(TOSIG) held in 25th Optoelectronics and Communications Conference(2020 OECC) the「50G xHaul Optical Communication in Wireless Base Station Technology Seminar」on October 6 to discuss the feasibility of promoting the 50G xHaul industry in wireless base stations issue.
HUAI-CHIA LO, CEO of the Photonics Industry & Technology Association (PIDA), said that 5G and the future 6G and other mobile communications and high-speed optical fiber transmission systems are of strategic importance. Looking at the development of countries around the world, it can be seen that the sooner the development begins, the better it is to gain advantages in competing with other foreign manufacturers. Therefore, it is absolutely imperative to master the commercialization of 50Gxhaul and the preliminary research of 6G.
HUI-CHI YANG, Vice President of Chunghwa Telecom Laboratories, said in a speech that this year Chunghwa Telecom Laboratories announced the licensing and technology transferring of “External Lightwave Path Switching Module”. The product has an external lightwave path switch function and can be applied to 4G/5G and fixed network construction. The substantial cost reduction will help speed up the development of the communications industry.
In the seminar, YU-CHUNG LIU, Associate of WMC Technology, and KUO-CHANG FENG, Director of Nokia, Taiwan were invited to share their views on the key technologies of O-RAN infrastructure for high-speed optical fiber systems in 5G base station applications and 5G transmission systems, as well as the technical development challenges of 25GPON and 50GPON. Various topics and in-depth discussions are delivered with industry experts during the seminar.
HUAI-CHIA LO also said that the future prospects of 5G/6G will inevitably be combined with the basic environment of optical fiber communication. The promotion of high-speed all-optical network transmission system industry ecosystem is more important and will be the last mile of communication. He further pointed out that the Taiwan 5G OptoComm SIG is the best communication platform for Taiwan’s first optical fiber communication supply chain in the 5G era. The fields include 5G applications, Netcom equipment, cloud applications, optical fiber applications, and optical communication components and modules. PIDA has been with the photonics industry for more than 20 years and will continue to promote industry coordination and cooperation to help the Taiwan optical communications industry.
This seminar was funded by the Industrial development bureau,
ministry of economic affairs, Taiwan.
