Opening of 2025 Christmasland in New Taipei City
New Taipei City officially inaugurated the “2025 Christmasland in New Taipei City” with an opening event that brought together large audiences, elaborate performances, and a comprehensive lighting display. The ceremony marked the beginning of the city’s most anticipated annual festival, presenting a richly curated holiday program centered on creativity, interactivity, and international collaboration.
This year’s edition is held in partnership with the globally recognized IP “LINE FRIENDS & LINE FRIENDS minini,” expanding the event’s visual identity and enhancing its appeal to a broad demographic. The characters’ integration throughout the venue reinforces the festival’s emphasis on warmth, companionship, and joyful celebration.
Illumination Ceremony and Themed Design
The lighting of the signature “Fun Circus Tent” Christmas Tree served as a symbolic opening moment, accompanied by simultaneous activation of themed light installations across the plaza. The design reflects the event’s overarching “Circus Carnival” theme, using layered lighting techniques, vivid color combinations, and character-based elements to create a unified visual environment.
The grand performance “Dreams Take Flight: The Flying Circus,” inspired by the concept of dreams ascending, demonstrated New Taipei City’s commitment to innovative public events. The show incorporated aerial silk acrobatics, large-scale hot-air balloon installations, on-ground interactive parades, and coordinated visual dance sequences. Together, these elements produced Taiwan’s first air-and-ground dual-axis interactive performance, enhancing the festival’s experiential dimension.
International Projection Mapping Showcase
A world-class 3D projection mapping show premiered during the opening event. Developed by a professional team from Singapore, the show brought the LINE FRIENDS characters to life through precision visual mapping on the exterior of New Taipei City Hall. This transformed the building into a multi-layered projection surface, enabling dynamic storytelling aligned with the circus theme.
This year, the projection show expands its scope by synchronizing visuals across the second-floor LED corridor and the “Fun Circus Tent” Christmas Tree, forming a plaza-wide illumination network. This integrated system creates an immersive environment in which light, sound, and architectural surfaces operate as a single narrative platform.
The storyline begins with Brown and Cony exchanging digital messages, signaling the start of a countdown sequence that transitions into scenes featuring the full LINE FRIENDS ensemble. The narrative emphasizes modern modes of communication, illustrating how connections and emotions traverse digital spaces, particularly during festive seasons. Through this framework, the projection performance reinforces Christmasland’s core message of warmth, shared experiences, and emotional resonance.

New Taipei City invites citizens and international visitors to experience the full array of installations, performances, and themed zones available throughout the Christmasland period. With its combination of large-scale art, performance innovation, and global character IP collaboration, Christmasland continues to position the city as a leader in cultural event production.
