As one of the world’s leading annual information and communications technology (ICT) trade shows, COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2017 opens today and run through June 3, with over 1,600 companies from around the world showcasing in 5,010 booths their latest products and technologies associated with five major themes: artificial intelligence (AI) & robotics, internet of things (IoT) applications, innovations & startups, business solutions, and gaming & virtual reality (VR), presenting a full picture of current and future global high-tech ecosystems.

Shedding Light on IoT and AI Applications

International IT researcher Gartner Inc. predicted that there would be 8.4 billion IoT application cases in the world in 2017, up 31 percent from 2016, and estimated total expenditures on endpoints and services to hit US$2 trillion in the year. In line with these trends, show organizers invited such global high-tech heavyweights as Acer, ASUS, Intel, NVIDIA, SUPERMICRO and Tesla — a COMPUTEX first-timer — to shed light on IoT and AI applications.

Walter Yeh, president and CEO of Taiwan External Trade Development Council.

“With the applications of AI and Big Data analysis, testing on 5G network signals has kicked off, and such newly emerging technologies as gaming, AR, and VR are undergoing robust development, while IoT technologies are poised to thoroughly reshape lifestyles and future business models,” said Walter Yeh, president and CEO of Taiwan External Trade Development Council, a co-organizer of the event.

“As one of the leading global ICT trade shows, COMPUTEX TAIPEI has been in sync with global high-tech trends and continues its transformation efforts, joining forces with elite partners worldwide to build global technology ecosystems,” he added. In line with the latest ICT industry trends, COMPUTEX 2017 is launching with four featured exhibition areas, namely SmarTEX, InnoVEX, iStyle and Gaming & VR.

Major IoT Applications at SmarTEX

With the Asia-Pacific playing an increasingly important role in the IoT supply chain, whether in initial R&D, manufacturing, end products or user experience, the SmarTEX exhibition area at Exhibition Hall 1 of Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) is of great interest. It showcases IoT applications in five major fields: security surveillance, smart home and entertainment, wearables, automotive electronics, and smart tech solutions, with domestic and overseas companies in the fields to jointly present future business models and lifestyles.

Innovative Startups at InnoVEX

Also gathering high-tech innovation driving forces from around the world, the InnoVEX exhibition area, opening between May 30 and June 1 at Exhibition Hall 3 of TWTC, features five major themes including: IoT, startup ecosystems, digital economy, AI and information technology policies. There will be a series of presentations, forums, contests, business matchmaking activities and interchanges organized to help foreign startups root their operations in Taiwan and enable Taiwanese startups to link up with international trends.

Apple MFi-certified Products at iStyle

As the only exhibition that connects all the sectors of the ICT industry, COMPUTEX again features an iStyle pavilion at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1 to showcase a variety of Apple MFi-certified products, highlighting Taiwan’s important position in Apple’s supply chain. Last year, the pavilion received an enthusiastic response and is therefore expanded this year.

Extreme Gaming at Gaming & VR

With gaming emerging as a leading application most representative of the software and hardware prowess in the post-PC era, the Gaming & VR exhibition area at the Hall 1 of Nangang Exhibition Center display gaming laptops, gaming desktops, display cards, gaming peripherals and many other advanced gaming products with extreme performance. Visitors will be able to enjoy diverse amazing VR experiences on the spot.
As one of the world’s iconic B2B high-tech trade shows, COMPUTEX 2017 houses dozens of specialized exhibition areas for systems and solutions, business solutions, embedded products, communications and networking, among others.

Eyeing Taiwan’s great potential for the development of IoT, the U.S.’ leading electrical vehicle maker Tesla attends the show for the first time to demonstrate its next-generation applications on the fourth floor of Nangang Exhibition Center. In addition, U.S. high-tech heavyweight Dell returns to the show following a hiatus of over 10 years.
Aiming to realize the goal of building global technology ecosystems, COMPUTEX 2017, with upgraded smart technologies, certainly continue to lead the world’s ICT industry in expanding the global market.
