AI service platform
- Provides arrival notifications to parents and convenient services for students at two elementary schools in Yunlin County
- Supplies tourists in Kaohsiung with information on dining and shopping, as well as exclusive promotions and smart guides
- Consolidates all aspects of tourism in a one-stop shop, making international travel convenient and inexpensive
In December 2019, Eyesmedia Co. completed implementation of a smart campus project with the Yunlin County Government at Jhen Si Elementary School in Douliou Township and Shuei Duei Elementary School in Gukeng Township. The project revolved around the establishment of a smart parent-teacher communications platform to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of interactions between parents, teachers and students by leveraging the power of the LINE messaging app’s intelligent chatbot platform.
When combined with Eyesmedia’s Asia Fun Pass cloud-based system, students can not only use their EasyCards to pay for public transportation, but parents can receive a notification when students swipe their cards as they enter the school. This lets parents know when their children arrive in school, giving them additional peace of mind.
In addition, students can use their cards to borrow and return books from the school library, as well as to purchase snacks and stationery from cashless vending machines.
Flexible platform to include health records and help instill good financial habits in children
In the future, schools’ health records for students will be introduced into the platform, providing parents reassurance and a better understanding of any medical issues.
Another upcoming feature will allow parents to add funds online to their children’s EasyCards, as well as receive details about their spending habits through LINE. In addition to helping them manage expenses, it provides parents an opportunity to educate their children about financial management concepts from an early age.
Introducing AI into education early to cultivate future talent
In addition to the pilot programs at the two elementary schools in Yunlin County, Eyesmedia plans to introduce the platform at National Taiwan University and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.
Eyesmedia founder Kenny Tseng admitted that the biggest challenge the firm has faced in developing the platform is a lack of artificial intelligence (AI) talent in Taiwan, which has slowed deployment of the system.
“I want to introduce such services into schools. We hope that AI can become commonplace in the educational environment of every child, because the future will be the age of AI,” Tseng said.
“If the educational system does not include AI, how are young people expected to know what AI is or develop it?” he said.
“Therefore, students should be exposed to AI early in their secondary education so that they can quickly enter the field in the future,” he added.
Asia Fun Pass provides tourists in Kaohsiung with useful information and exclusive perks
In 2019, Eyesmedia collaborated with the Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau to integrate information related to food, shopping and transportation that would be useful to tourists into the Asia Fun Pass platform to make visiting the city more convenient.
Travelers only need to add the Asia Fun Pass LINE account to access Eyesmedia’s JustKa 24-hour customer service platform based on a self-developed natural language processing model. JustKa can provide tourists information related to transportation and dining, as well as perks including discounts, itineraries and smart guides. Users only need to show vendors the Quick Response code on their mobile phones to immediately enjoy exclusive offers, making sightseeing smarter and more convenient.
At the unveiling of JustKa in November 2019, Eyesmedia also announced a partnership with TMS Group to provide a plethora of additional transportation services through the platform, including car rental and airport pickup and drop-off.
All-in-one service platform changing the face of the tourism industry and making international travel convenient
Tseng said that he came up with the idea for Asia Fun Pass after experiencing the hassles that come with international travel: setting up mobile phone roaming, the inconvenience of payments in different currencies and unfamiliar transportation.
“I wanted to create a system that provides members integrated services accessible around the world through their smartphone,” Tseng said.
Eyesmedia aims to “fix problems so that international travel is convenient. In addition to convenience, it needs to be cheap, so our core values are convenience, affordability and service,” he said.
“In the future, tourism will be about branding. Once this model becomes reality, it will change the structure of Taiwan’s travel industry, because everyone will start to recognize tourism brands,” Tseng said.
Eyesmedia is not a travel agency, but rather a travel service platform, he said.
“You can arrange for mobile phone roaming, rent a car and make payments,” in addition to a vast array of other services, Tseng said.
People would no longer have to go through the tedious process of finding and booking flights and hotels on their own, he said, as Eyesmedia would become an all-in-one, one-stop shop for travel.
While Asia Fun Pass has only rolled out in Kaohsiung, in 2020 it will become available in China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan — and possibly other regions. The goal is to link Asian countries so that everyone can easily and conveniently go abroad with just their smartphone.
