Smart Medical System – EBM’s MobiHIS
- Solves the pain point that doctors did not want to use the hospital-developed mobile patient round system.
- Solves doctors’ outpatient problem by setting offline or remote services for VIP patients.
- Easy to use. No need to consult the manual.
In large hospitals, patient round or bedside visit by doctors is essential. But sometimes it is very troublesome for doctors to have to go to different wards to perform the rounds, especially when they have to carry a large pile of medical files. To solve the problem, Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital developed a mobile patient round system three years ago for its doctors so that they could easily access the information they need during their bedside visits. But after the system went online, no doctors were willing to use it.
Pain point: Doctors were reluctant to use the hospital-developed system because it was not only troublesome but also time consuming in using it.
Benefit: Problem is fixed and the new system is smooth to operate and is time and cost saving.
EBM — which has business relations with Hualien Tzu Chi and has 30 years of experience in Taiwan’s medical system development — later found out that the new system required even more time and effort for doctors to sort out the information they needed. In creating the system, the hospital focused on the computer groundwork rather than developing it from the mobile app perspective. In the end, it caused more troubles and delays. As a result, doctors were reluctant to use the system.
There are other patient round software systems in the market, but it would take the hospital more time and effort to integrate the software with its network. EBM later helped the hospital develop a new system, which used the mobile app concept as the basis, doing away with the workstation and server framework.
EBM Taiwan General Manager Wayne Ting pointed out that the company has an edge — it has come to the mobile app design market much later than other companies. Therefore, it does not have the burden that computer designs have had throughout their development. Besides, EBM can absorb the experience of other companies that have failed in their previous mobile app designs and come up with the most suitable and most effective patient round system for the hospital.
Ting said that since the APPLE IOS system carries all the sophisticated medical software platforms in the world, EBM also uses APPLE’s to load its patient round platform — MobiHIS.
Smartphone platform is the best media
Because the only information device that a doctor does not leave is the mobile phone, EBM thus decided to mount its first generation of MobiHIS on the mobile phone. Under the design, MobiHIS connects with the hospital’s database directly through the mobile phone system. Doctors no longer need to memorize or note down a patient’s medical record number to retrieve a patient’s information. Also, such critical information as the patient’s ID, anonymization, and even the caregiver’s data all show up at the same time when the information is retrieved through the app. Doctors can even make special notes about the patient’s conditions on the app, and key those notes back in the hospital’s healthcare system for reference in the future after finishing the ward rounds.
No manual needed in operating the app
Since the hospital launched the new system, medical personnel have been able to access a patient’s information with great ease through the mobile app during their rounds at different wards. Because the program interface is very straightforward, doctors do not need to spend time learning how to operate the app. The app has now become the most indispensable tool for doctors to perform their rounds at the hospital. According to the hospital’s information desk, two-thirds of its medical staff use the new app every day due to its convenience and efficiency.
Different functions authorized to meet different needs in various departments of the hospital. The updated version allows doctors to set up offline and remote services for VIP patients and etc.
Advanced version, which allows doctors to set up offline or remote services for VIP patients …Medical staff can also choose to use the standard, professional, and advanced versions of MobiHIS according to their needs.
For example, the advanced version allows doctors to set up offline services for VIP patients. Through the encryption action and the encryption design of the offline database, the entire system can be used with high-security protection and achieve non-network synchronization or remote connection under the VPN network.
MobiHIS now enters its second generation to meet the different needs of different medical personnel. It has an interface redesigned for IPAD medical staff users with a larger screen and more advanced features to ensure the convenient and smooth operation of the app.
EBM seeks to refine MobiHIS further in the future and integrate it with other medical imaging systems of the company. In addition to helping various medical institutions in customization of their systems, EBM also hopes to incorporate with other different systems with the aid of AI so that physicians can concentrate on diagnosing work for the patients.
