Smart environmental control system
- Facilitated the construction of smart greenhouses in Indonesia to solve a shortage in vegetable supply
- Provided modern greenhouses and warehouses designed in Taiwan to Indonesia’s Lembang National Agricultural Training Center
Smart Applications Overview
One major product from Huang Lin Machinery Co. is the GREENBELT Smart Environmental Control System. It features an intelligent environmental control system with Internet of Things components (sensing layer, network layer, cloud service layer and application layer, etc.)
In addition, a 4G SIM card can be used to provide wireless connectivity to the cloud and enable the viewing of a facility’s environmental information through a mobile app. This establishes remote control without the need for fixed telecommunications infrastructure to reduce costs.

Helping Indonesia build smart greenhouses to solve a shortage of vegetables
Due to insufficient local agricultural output, Indonesia has long been forced to import produce on a large scale, which has caused not only a considerable burden on its finances, but is also unconducive to the development of the domestic agricultural sector.
As part of efforts to curb imports, the Indonesian government has adopted a number of restrictions. For example, Regulation No. 60 issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture in 2012 aimed to protect local farmers by restricting the import of certain fruits and vegetables from January to June 2013. The prohibited fruits and vegetables included potatoes, cabbages, carrots, peppers, yellow pears, melons, bananas, mangoes, papayas and durian.
Huang Lin Machinery General Manager Hong Fu-liang said that due to the strong demand for vegetables in Indonesia, related agricultural areas have begun a trend toward development. Therefore, in 2017 Huang Ling Machinery deployed its GREENBELT Smart Environmental Control System at Indonesia’s Lembang National Agricultural Training Center (LNATC). The company helped build four greenhouses with smart environmental controls covering an area of about 990 square meters to help solve the shortages of vegetables.
Taiwan’s smart agricultural technology benefits Indonesia’s agricultural modernization
The Indonesian government has placed a high priority on agriculture and is providing its full support to the sector. Huang Lin Machinery’s smart environmental control system makes it possible to monitor the environmental conditions of crops, livestock and aquatic products.
The company’s smart environmental control systems have seen success in Taiwan’s livestock, aquaculture, agriculture and other industries, Hong said.
Since 2015, Huang Lin Machinery has leveraged Taiwanese agricultural technology to help improve the production and marketing of Indonesia’s agricultural modernization through the “Taiwan Technical Indonesia Bandung Strengthening Agricultural Enterprise Cultivation and Development Plan.” It is providing modern greenhouses and warehouses designed in Taiwan to the LNATC.
“As a member of the agricultural sector, Huang Lin Machinery is deeply committed to its advancement,” Hong said.
“It is imperative to actively innovate and cooperate with agricultural research units to establish a model of intelligent environmental control, as well as fully cooperate with government policies and expand to overseas markets,” Hong said.
The mobile app allows for instant monitoring of a facility to help users master the factors for crop growth and more effectively assert control on the environment, Hong added.
Successful adoption in Taiwan and expansion to overseas markets
Huang Lin Machinery’s GREENBELT Smart Environmental Control System has been successfully adopted by a number of domestic companies and displayed at several exhibitions in Taiwan. These include the establishment of an intelligent greenhouse environmental control system for orchids at an agricultural laboratory in Yunlin County’s Gukeng Township and an automated control system at the visitor center of the Taichung World Flora Exposition.
In addition to increasing collaboration with domestic agricultural research units and enterprises, Huang Lin Machinery also plans to expand to overseas markets.
Agriculture is one of the main industries of Thailand, whose central plains region has the highest population density and most developed irrigation system, making it the country’s rice bowl. While organic farming and hydroponics operations remain small-scale and limited to suburban areas, the government has been promoting agricultural development and devoting significant amounts of resources.
Thai companies have deployed Huang Lin Machinery’s intelligent, energy-saving aquaponics system, while in China, the Dongguan Agricultural Science Center has deployed the firm’s solar-powered smart environmental control system.
These applications, and many more like them, are all based on Taiwan’s experience in the construction of such facilities, Hong said.
Before a whole facility is exported, it is customized to meet the diverse needs of different customers and the crop growth environments of various countries, Hong added.
