KuoKuang creates ITS platform and guarantees public transportation quality
The company’s Vice Chairman Wu Ting-fa said that during the early years of the company’s privatization in 2001, KuoKuang had uploaded logistics, cash flow, data archives, human resource information, information management, and big data integration online.
The Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) helps prevent traffic incidents stemming from fatigued drivers, as well as machinery-based incidents. We integrated the ITS system, including ticketing, GPS tracking, driving records, and broadcasting systems for station names, into our operation scheme very early on, and the subsequent analyses of data allowed KuoKuang to see where it was lacking and were able to make improvements, allowing the company to offer better services to our clients, Wu said.
The system has brought about increased efficacy in business and allowed the company to keep complete records regarding driving time, individual contributions to the company by drivers, and maintenance. This has allowed the company to run a tight ship, preventing driver fatigue and vehicle component wear-and-tear from being the primary cause of accidents.
KuoKuang’s annual launch of 1.7 million buses facilitates public transportation between Taiwan’s urban and rural areas
With over 52 stations nation-wide, 17 of which located in major transit hubs and shared with other bus companies, KuoKuang boasts of 2,000 drivers, a fleet of 1,200 buses and an annual launch of 1.7 million rides. KuoKuang’s routes not only visit small towns and major municipalities but also facilitates travel for individuals to the airport, ports and harbors, Taiwan High-Speed Railway stations and Taiwan Railway stations.
Drawing on experience in Taiwan’s public transportation sector, KuoKuang is helping other Southeast Asian nations bring a halt to chaotic traffic in the region and build a modern transportation system
Aside from being experienced in vehicle manufacturing and maintenance. KuoKuang is also a seasoned hand in the planning and scheduling of entire bus fleets, operation, and management of bus stations, integration and establishment of ticketing systems and added-value for customer services.
The lack of wide-spread public transportation in developing countries in the Southeast Asian region is a primary cause of the chaotic traffic in major cities of the region. Starting in 2017, KuoKuang has established offices, or subsidiary companies, in Cambodia, Burma, and Vietnam to provide the assistance to said countries in building a functional and healthy public transportation system using the company’s experiences in Taiwan.
Allowing affordable vehicles to continue service in Cambodia, providing a total solution of public transportationranging from car chartering to bus systems
It is a common sight for workers in some regions of these countries to be riding on trucks, rather than public transportation vehicles. This exposes the apparent lack of such a system in the countries and exposes the workers to unnecessary risk and danger. Such practices have also led to traffic snarls in the region.
“We have, at the moment, established four routes in Cambodia, including one going to and from Phnom Penh International Airport. We are allocating aged vehicles that are still in very good conditions and have not yet reached the age of termination,” Wu said.
“These vehicles perform duties ranging from bus systems to vehicle chartering and have brought about facilitation of transportation to the local populace,” Wu said.
KuoKuang has also established a local maintenance factory to furnishes complete post-sale service and maintenance.
“We have borrowed extensively on our experiences in Taiwan regarding the establishment of bus fleets and bus stations, allowing us to implement the routes rapidly and provide service,” Wu said.
The company is currently in discussions with ourpartners inVietnamto establish an international bus route that would extend toHo Chi Minh City, which would bring about more options for regional transportation, as well as being a potential commercial opportunity regarding tourism.
Utilizing electric-powered buses with Mobility as a Service (Maas), to create an exemplary total solution of smart transportation.
In October 2019, KuoKuang’s ability to manufacture the chassis and assemble complete electric-powered vehicles won the company a certificate issued by Taiwan Government. The company’s ability is also in line with the world manufacturer identifier (WMI) standard. This meant that electric-powered buses and vehicles made in Taiwan are now viable for international export.
“Smart transportation has always incorporated alternative energy and smart technology concepts and electric-powered buses embody both of these concepts. KuoKuang is looking to collaborate with Willer Inc., a Japanese company, in 2020 to create a testing site for the integration of electric-powered buses using the MaaS system, Wu said.
“Users will only need to use a cellphone application to complete all arrangements and payment for the ride, which could greatly increase the public’s will to use public transportation systems,” Wu said.
KuoKuang believes that the modern public transportation system are generally accessible to allpeople regardless of socioeconomic status, age, disability, etc.,and also would greatly reduce the traffic congestion problems brought about by using private cars.
When air pollution becomes a major concern, reduced traffic volume would also ameliorate air pollution problems, resulting in energy conservation, being environmentally friendly and solving traffic problems. KuoKuang hopes to encourage and flesh out the implementation of the smart city concept with its take on smart transportation.
The company has also pledged to devote more resources to the development of alternative energy, in its application of transportation, and smart transportation, so that the lives of the people on the Earth could see sustainable improvements.
