NADI – Digital Twins Enhancing Spatial Management, Surveillance, and More

A relatively new company on the market, NADI specializes in dimensional technologies, software development, both of which could see an extensive application in real-time IoT management systems.

Smart Surveillance – Face and license plate recognition

Smart Security – Video Surveillance

Smart Building – Smart Building Management System

Highlights

  • Adoption of the Digital Twins concept to enable digital on-scale mapping of spatial dimensions possible, allowing for “smart” applications in management and surveillance in Taipei City
  • Varying view angles allow for greater surveillance system operator efficiency to conduct monitoring while facilitating review of historic footage at the Taipei City Hall
  • On-scale digital model helps Yilan County Government track combustible and flammable item storage
  • Digital model also helps Yilan County Fire Department as the system as it is now able to know the interior layout of restricted buildings prior to a disaster

A relatively new company on the market, NADI specializes in dimensional technologies, software development, both of which could see an extensive application in real-time IoT management systems.

Taipei City Government Building Upgrades

NADI in 2019 picked up a case from the Taipei municipal government to upgrade surveillance capability and capacity.

The main administrative building of the nation’s capital has seen multiple surveillance camera additions since its completion in 1993, with each addition, however, making the surveillance system that much more bloated and unwieldy.

Enter NADI, presenting Taipei with a solution to maximize the efficiency of camera and data management through on-scale digital mapping of the building more efficiently, compared to other offers put out by competitors.

NADI conducted the digital mapping using original building blueprints, after obtaining the permission of the Taipei municipal government, and rendering a 3D digital model of the building on an on-scale, or 1:1, basis.

The basis of the modeling process is based on the “Digital Twins” concept, allowing the model to map the interior spaces of the building. In short, the system granted the surveillance operators of the building ease of use and facility of management.

The system provided by NADI allows for the alternation between the first and third-person angles, a development greatly facilitating the surveillance system operator’s ability to nigh-instinctively place the location they are looking at – whether it’s on separate floors or whichever cardinal direction the camera is aimed at.

The ability to know where, and what one is seeing is crucial for efficient surveillance, as the operator – or their manager – can easily pull up past footage and swiftly identify the location where an incident had occurred.

NADI’s system also enables system operators to pull up historic footage with greater ease, saving a great amount of time compared with traditional surveillance systems, in which the operator not only has to recover data from every camera, but also have to manually decipher which of the cameras are being used in the footage, and where they are pointed at.

The ability to alternate between the first and third-person views facilitates management processes, as one could see more from the overview of an area offered by the third-person view.

NADI selected the 80 cameras out of the entire bank of devices installed in the building, as these were the only ones capable of conducting image analysis and allowing the surveillance system operator to use them as focal points of the entire network, quickly identify, during off-hours, who is trespassing into areas they should not be in.

While specific details on how the NADI systems had helped the municipal government expand its surveillance capacity and manage interior spacing was not shared, NADI President Steven Chang (張泫沛), given his familiarity with such systems, estimated that conservatively, the Taipei City Hall will have at least doubled its surveillance efficiency.

NADI Marketing & PR Manager Ann Wang (王安岑) stated that NADI’s system offers inter-system tracing, location of the cameras and screens, in-real-time alerts, and facilitating historical footage review, all of which greatly enhances system operators’ efficiency.

Yilan Fire Fighting Dimensional Mapping and Tracking

In another project with the Yilan County government earlier in 2018, NADI collaborated with several partners, with its 3D on-scale environmental mapping of more than 200 restricted buildings playing the role of systems integrator, enhancing the Yilan Fire Department’s future firefighting efficiency.

Hotels, factories, stores, and even residential buildings are considered restricted as these buildings house flammable or combustible items, though, per regulations, these items have specific areas or storage.

Before this, however, the firefighters would not know the building’s interior spaces, rendering the regulations ineffective, in terms of Fire Department personnel safety.

The upload of these digital building renditions onto the system enables the Yilan City Fire Department to know which floor has these items, as well as all other pertinent information a firefighter would need to successfully put out fires and extract civilians.

Firefighters wear a sensor which helps the system track the individual should they become separated from the group and is out of contact. This sensor, still able to accurately track the location of the wearer while indoors and in a very high-temperature environment, is hailed as one of its kind as it can withstand high temperature, calculates the wearer’s position via the Earth’s axial positions relative to the wearer, and other information such as geomagnetism, and the NADI system has to compute this information and translate that into a location on its 3D model of the building.

While the tracking sensor is considered a last resort, to ensure such an option exists, the Yilan County Government will have to continue its efforts of mapping more and more buildings.

China Productivity Center Collaboration

NADI’s most recent project, involving the China Productivity Center (CPC) and the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, partners with Singapore to produce an international digital spatial management platform.

The project focuses on the theme of smart spaces and uses the Digital Twins concept to facilitate cooperation between different hardware components. NADI’s system for the Singapore project hopes to, ultimately, interconnect relevant industries and create a smart ecosystem. The system is seen as the future lead to help facilitate business ventures by Taiwanese small-to-middling companies abroad.

Extended Application for NADI System

NADI’s systems have also seen extended use in airports, both in Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport and Singapore’s Changi International Airport.

At Taoyuan, NADI’s system is used for flight regulation and management. Utilizing an entirely 3D model of the airport, the airport management could track and monitor the movements of all planes currently in the airport.

In Changi, NADI’s system is helping the airport gather high-speed image tracking and management, starting from the moment a descending plane puts down its landing gears to the moment it touches the ground.

Future Plans and Development

In the future, NADI hopes to see applied uses for its systems in the sectors of city planning, infrastructure, manufacturing, and energy.

The company is looking to make the systems completely modular and able to be adapted to all four sectors, and perhaps even derivative industries of those four sectors, Chang said.

At the same time, NADI is also advancing its system from spatial and dimensional management to basic Artificial Intelligence (AI) computation.

Given enough data, NADI’s system could evolve into more than just a 3D digital spatial management platform and could conduct simulation analysis for project preparatory efforts and predicting certain results or outcomes. In time, all of the data will be fed into a giant archive which would serve as a data index that would assist humans in making management decisions.

Selling Points

  • .Understanding the possibilities that it’s systems could be applied to other industries and constantly innovating and upgrading its systems to meet future challenges through system modularity
  • .The use of NADI systems significantly improves the efficacy of all fields to which it is adapted, thus improving clients’ overall capabilities.
